Lake Aral
Published in Paperback by CDA Publishing (19 April, 2002)
Average review score:

Triumphal Techno-ThrillerJIHAD: World War in 2036, elevated MacDonald Reid into the pantheon of the Gods of the Techno-Thriller. OIL COMMISSION raised Reid above all the rest. Lake Aral is a stunning and most fitting termination of the World Union Series.
The action shifts to the Far East. Japan, experiencing a resurgence of Bushido, acts to recover the territories it lost in World War II. China, suffering a prolonged famine, seeks arable land and new sources of food to feed its two billion souls.
To both Japan and China, Russia is the arch-enemy. Russia seized Sakhalin and the Kirile Islands from Japan at the end of World War II. Russia had also seized the region south of the Stanovoy Mountains from China. Determined to liberate their native lands, China and Japan attack Russia.
But, the world has changed. Lead by the Oil Commission, the world has come into a new era of prosperity based upon mutual cooperation. The world's armed forces have been cut to the bone, and the peaceful exploration of space is well underway. Yet, China's billions of people and Japan's advanced weapons threaten to destroy everything that has been accomplished since the Cold War.
Can the rest of the world act in time to halt aggression? Or, will warfare destroy civilization?
As we have come to expect in Reid's novels, Lake Aral is a story of hope. A new era dawns, bearing with it lasting peace and prosperity for all Mankind.
Even if you're not "into" techno-thrillers, I recommend Lake Aral by MacDonald Reid. If you are, you'll love it as much as JIHAD: World War in 2036, and OIL COMMISSION.

Lake Boon, MA

Average review score:

Lake Boon is "Any Lake USA". A wondeful trip back in time.Mr. Kattelle and Mr. Halprin take you back in time to where America remembers it's neighborhood resorts. Like the Catskills and Adirondacks of old, Images of America Lake Boon recalls a simpler time of leisure. Where being together in a magical place in a magical summer time is all we ever longed for. The images are wonderful. From the boat parades of 50 years ago, to ice fishermen and the oddest fun events that entertained folks of all ages. If your a "old times" buff, this book is for you. Lake Boon MA is a jewel just 30 miles from Boston.

Lake County, Illinois: An Illustrated History
Published in Hardcover by Heritage Media Corporation (10 May, 2002)
Average review score:

Concise, yet lively history! With loads of pictures and many, fascinating little known details, the author has made the history of Lake County, Illinois, come alive. The book flows from prehistory to native peoples and all the way up until today, with our shopping malls, amusement park, and subdivisions named for the now vanished meadows and woodlands. A wonderful, concise resource of facts about Lake County, Illinois (in the upper northeast corner of the state).

Lake Isle

Top rate FreelingCastang meets Sabine Arthur when she comes to share her concern that something is wrong in her household. Sabine is an elderly widow who means well, but manages to be abrasive to everyone she meets. This talent has put her at odd with her son, and Sabine is afraid. Castang believes that she has something to be afraid of, but there isn't anything the police can do for her, since nothing had yet happened.
Her death finally allows Castang to take action, as her case becomes his first fully-fledged homicide inquiry.
One of the things that Freeling does best is explore the uncertainties and games that underlie middle-class European life. His look at the tiny French town of Soulay is a masterful example of this talent. One of the best Castang books (although I still prefer the Van Der Valk series).

A must have for the Great Lakes Carferry enthusiastZimmermann's book catches the spirit of the Lake Michigan Railroad Car Ferries from the Ann Arbor No. 1 to the Chief Wawatam. The Society for the Preservation of the SS City of Milwaukee agrees that the ship represents the pinnacle of carferry design. Lake of Fire smokesLake of Fire is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. If you are interested in cults, this is the book for you. But it's also funny, sad and warm. I gave this to my daughter to read and she loved it.

Lake of Memory Rising: Return of the Five Ancient Truths at the Heart of Religion
Published in Hardcover by Council Oak Distribution (April, 2000)
Average review score:

Informative, challenging, controversial, profoundly engagingIn Lake Of Memory Rising: Return Of The Five Ancient Truths At The Heart Of Religion, William Fix draws on thirty years of study in Christianity, shamanism, and ancient hermetic, Gnostic, and Indian writings, as well as his ground breaking earlier writings on the measurements of the pyramids and ancient star maps to present a ground synthesis of comparative religion and mythology. Several provocative chapters examine the spirit known as Jesus and his many incarnations leading up to his likely initiation in the Great Pyramid and ultimate triumph over death. Especially recommended to students of comparative religion and metaphysical studies, Lake Of Memory Rising is fascinating, informative, challenging, controversial, and profoundly engaging reading.
